Excerpt from the book, Educated by Tara Westover (a memoir):
Before Christmas, we continued our preparations as if every action, every minor addition to our stores might make the difference between surviving, and not; after Christmas we waited. “When the hour of need arises,” Dad said, “the time of preparation has passed.”

Although I’m still reading this book, so I can’t give you a full review but, when I read this paragraph, that line I have in bold, jumped in my spirit. It reminded me so much of how I am often caught up in always trying to prepare myself for my next project or item to mark off on my to-do lists and then…..BOOM….. it’s time to show myself approved from all of the preparation and actually do the work!
For example, I can prepare for writing a play script for months, and then at some point the time of preparation has passed and I must actually sit down and write the script. I’ve done enough research, I’ve brainstormed enough, I’ve procrastinated a gazillion times and now I must write what I have spent my time preparing for. Or in other words, face what’s ahead of me.
A great analogy that Ashley M. Fox, a Financial Education Specialist, taught me was, using the game of basketball. You can prepare or practice everyday, but eventually, you have to get in the game in order to play and call yourself a basketball player. This goes for us bookworms as well, we can’t always have our heads in the books learning. Eventually we have to implement what we have learned in those books, into our lives. I can’t always read about self-care and never use self-care in my life from what I’ve read. Makes sense, right?????
In this particular passage in the book, the father was preparing the family for the infamous Y2K moment that if not all of us, some of us also questioned our faith on December 31, 1999 at 11:59 pm. They packed and prepared as long as they could for that minute, which was supposed to be the end of the world. It was now time to face what they spent hours and days, preparing for. Although obviously, the end of the world never happened but the message in that line was so profound, that I had to share it with my readers.
What are you constantly preparing for that that time of preparation has passed and you need to face what is next in your life? Is what’s next your business plan, becoming an entrepreneur, going back to school, starting a family, changing careers, starting a blog, writing a book, etc.?
You have spent enough time preparing for whatever it is that you desire to do, and it is time to do it! Take all of your notes, vision boards and whatever else you use to take hold of your dreams or goals and get to working on those dreams and goals. Yes, there will be some trials and errors, but keep going, failures are our greatest teachers.
